So here are the steps how to best and effectively clean your brushes:
Things you will need:
- Small bowl
- Gentle clarifying shampoo or baby shampoo
- Clean cloth
Start by running the bristles under lukewarm water. This step is to rinse off old makeup residue that must have been trapped in the brush. In doing this, avoid wetting the part where the brush meets the handle as it could eventually loosen the glue.
Next, use a shallow bowl and fill it with lukewarm water. Place a drop of shampoo on the bristles. Put a heavy drop for blush, foundation and kabuki brushes while small drops for concealer, eyeliner, and other small brushes would do.
Gently swirl your brush in the water. You could even swirl the brush in the palm of your hands and form lather. Make sure to get all the bristles and try to avoid distorting the shape of the brush.
Rinse the brush on the bowl then put it again on running water. Make sure to rinse thoroughly until no visible lather is present. Wipe your brush clean by using the cloth while you reshape it in the process. Lay the brush flat on the cloth and leave it to dry overnight.
And Voila! You now have a clean and dirt-free brush you could use for your next makeup sesh. Cleaning your makeup brushes would not only remove dirt and bacteria, but could also maintain the soft feel of the brush as old makeup residue makes it brittle and scratchy. Remember to use daily brush cleaner applying it on the brush after every use.
Clean your brush at least once a week. Makeup brushes of fine quality could be a little expensive so by maintaining your brush and cleaning it once in a while is a great way to preserve your investment.
